I replaced our 13 y/o, 50 gallon propane water heater that was probably installed back when propane cost $1/gallon. At today's propane prices over $3/gallon, our old water heater still had the sticker that said it used 300 gallons/year. That's at least $900/year right now.

The GEOSPRING's government energy tag says it will uses under $200/year worth of electricity at our rate of $0.105/KWh. That's tested in hybrid mode at 135F too. If you can get by with a lower temp or less demand where you use heat pump only mode you will save a bit more.

I bought it on sale and I bought an extended warranty just in case issues pop up given that this is a relatively new design, but I expect it to pay for itself in 18 months or better.

It's fairly quiet and smooth in heat pump mode and the numbers (6000 btu) tell me it will raise the 50 gallons of water about 14 degrees F/hour using only the heat pump yet pulling under 600W of electricity. Using only the heat pump it definitely takes some time to recover from any significant use. If you run in hybrid mode and use a lot of water - more than one bath or shower consecutively - it will kick on the 4500W (15000 btu) standard element and your 50 gallons will gain about 36 degrees F/hour, recovering quickly but pulling much more power. It seems to be very well insulated - the outside metal is not even warm when water is 135F.

This water heater requires a supply of air that is about 50 degrees F or better to use the heat pump. The best place for a heat pump water heater is probably the garage in a moderate climate. It will dehumidify and cool your garage when it runs. You really don't want to have it working against your furnace in the winter, so a separate air space from your living area is key to getting the full benefit of the heat pump.

If you've always run propane not electric water heat, you may need to add a 30A 220V circuit to its location, and regardless you'll need a place to drain condensation from the evaporator. It can't live in a closet without making some ventilation accommodations. Otherwise it's not much different from replacing any water heater.

The meter is brand new but manufactured ages ago. More importantly the calibration period is well overpassed. The sticker on the meter recommended next calibration within a year 12 years ago! It works well and it is performing within specs, at least so far. They are suposed --according to the included manual-- to come with the RS232 optical adapter and CD. Also there should have been a calibration certificate, a record that gives you the deviation of the meter measurements from the calibration standard. Both things were missing. Ingeneral you get what you pay for, but is frustrating to get a great product in a stale condition. C'est la vie!

BRIGGS AND STRATTON 693479 CARBURETOR Review

As advertised, this carburetor is a new OEM Briggs part. It's not a rebuild. It was professionally packed and arrived ahead of the ETA date.

If there's anything I'd liked to have known before purchasing, it's that the breather pan gasket (top gasket) isn't included. If you need this gasket, shop for it and put it in your cart before checking out.

This item comes with the fuel pump installed. A fuel pump kit isn't needed. Bolt the carb to the manifold, connect the lines and you're back in business. It's that easy. No adjustments are required.

The base gaskets are included as well as a new S-hook for connecting the throttle linkage. A nice touch since many of us old-timers tend to drop and lose those things while we're working. ;)

We acquired an orphaned garden tractor recently and converted it to a firewood dragger. Pulled the belly mower and installed super lug tires. Everything is solid and strong. However, the engine wouldn't run unless the choke was partially closed. Cleaning the carb didn't cure the problem and I didn't wish to fuss with rebuilding it.

This new carb got us rolling. Very easy to install - two 1/4" bolts. Cranked the engine to fill the bowl and she was purring like brand-new. We took it out in the woods today and ran it for over three hours. It starts quickly with little choke when cold. When warm, it starts in a second with no choke. Hit the ignition and "Vroom."

JVCC NS-2A Premium Non-Skid Tape is a premium 32 mil 60 grit silicone carbide high traction, anti-slip tape. It is a waterproof non-skid tape with an aggressive acrylic adhesive (more permanent than a synthetic rubber adhesive). JVCC Non-Skid Tape is used indoors or out on stairs, pool areas, ramps, work areas, skateboards and garage steps. The 60 grit silicone carbide surface is similar in feel to 60 grit sandpaper therefore it is not appropriate for bare feet. NS-2A complies with OSHA 1910.263(3). Also please note the semi-transparent/translucent color is only partially transparent while the white color is completely opaque. For bare feet please see a rubberized non-skid tape like the ISC 3500 Jessup Safety Track. JVCC NS-2A is not coated with an adhesive that can be submerged or put underwater.
