Product Feature
- Powdered-metal steel offers performance that approaches that of solid carbide tools but with the toughness and shock-resistance of high-speed steel (HSS)
- 135-degree angle, notched-point provides ease of penetration when starting holes and prevent walking
- Titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) coating lubricates the drill bit for high-temperature stability and abrasion resistance at high cutting speeds, offering better heat resistance than TiN and TiCN coatings
- Jobber-length, for a wide range of applications
- Round shanks, for use on a variety of tool-holding systems
Product Description
The Cleveland 1982SJL jobber length powdered-metal steel drill bit has a 30-degree helix angle, with a 135-degree notched-point drill point and Titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) surface treatment, which is designed for high performance material-specific (cast iron) drilling applications. The shank diameter is the same as the drill size.
While the 1982SJL also known as Q-PM series can be used on most materials, it is most suitable for drilling into cast iron. Spiral flutes act as a passageway for chip extraction from the hole and for coolant to enter the hole. Right-hand twist brings chips up and away from the cutting edge. Round shanks allow use with a wide variety of tool holding systems. 135-degree notched-point drill point works well for hard and tough materials. The lip clearance is very shallow to provide support for the cutting edges. The shorter cutting edge reduces friction and heat during drilling, increasing tool life. The notched point can withstand higher thrust loads and has same benefits as a split-point design. Powdered-metal steel offers performance that approaches that of solid carbide tools but with the toughness and shock-resistance of high-speed steel. Titanium aluminum nitride (TiAlN) resists heat better than TiN, increasing tool life and performance. It also offers increased hardness compared to TiN and, at high cutting speeds, may reduce the need for lubricants based on the application. It is suitable for machining titanium, nickel-based alloys, cast iron, and stainless steel.

Drill bits are cutting tools used to make holes in a range of materials. They are used in machines such as handheld portable drills, drill presses, machining centers, and lathes. Drill bits come in a variety of types and lengths. Twist drill bits are the most common type of drill bit. They are a round, twisted shaft, end-cutting tool with two or more cutting edges and two or more flutes. Jobber drill bits are the most common length of twist bit. They offer a good comprise of length and reach to work with the widest range of materials and applications.

Cleveland 1982SJL Powdered Metal Steel Jobbers' Length Drill Bit, TiAlN Coated, Round Shank, 135 Degree Notch Point, 19/32" (Pack of 1) Review
This Powdered Metal Drill Bit, TiAlN Coated isreally tough and very hard. I got this size
because it was the least expensive and a decent size
to use as a pilot drill. Too, it looks very cool.
