Emerson CQC7BSFS SFS Folding Knife 154 CM/Satin Combo Tanto Point Dual Thumb Disc/Pocket Clip 3.3" Black G10 Box CQC7BSFSEmerson Cqc-7 3.3" Satain Combo Review
My exact Emerson is the CQC 7A, which means it is a drop rather than a tanto point. The knife was a gift since I hesitate to spend this kind of money on simple production knives. Good reasoning, in this case.Plus: Great handle finishing on the G10 scales. Probably never slip out of the hand. Very impressive, solid sounding lockup when opened quickly and hard. Not flimsy. Very high quality materials. Sharp. Impressive name and website.
Minus: Piece of junk in terms of fit and finish. The locking bar sometimes doesn't slip all the way to the center-aligned position when the blade is opened. The adjoining lock-to-blade surfaces appear rough. The knife is now "grinding" when opened for about 20-degrees of the opening arc. (Dirt in the bearing?) The blade came with grinding-burn marks on the serrations. The allegedly titanium innards also show grinding burn marks. The thumb ridges on the blade's back have some red "stuff" mixed in with the black oxide coating (left over layout dye?). The logo on the blade says, "Wave Feature," and the blade is obviously not an Emerson Wave blade. That same logo is not crisp. There are really coarse machining marks on several surfaces as if the parts are manufactured at absolute maximum speed with no secondary finishing whatsoever. The black oxide is so thin that you could see metal shine through it in spots, right out of the box and it is already wearing off the thumb button and pocket clip (after 2 weeks of occasional carry.) Finally, both the blade and the overall dimensions of this knife are noticeably shorter than the factory specs.
Emerson's website says that there are counterfeits of their products on the market. This knife is so bad that I enumerated the above flaws and sent photos to Emerson. They responded that my knife is NOT counterfeit. Therefore, it would be a cold day somewhere before I spend my own money on an Emerson. Buyer beware.
