Product Description
The Merit Brass reducing coupling is a class 125 lead-free brass pipe fitting with female National Pipe Taper (NPT) threads on both ends for connecting male pipes. This reducing coupling has one end that is smaller than the other for connecting different sizes of pipe going in the same direction. It has NPT threads for creating tighter seals than straight threads and is made of Lead-free brass, which is comparable in strength to stainless steel and is also more corrosion resistant. This class 125 fitting meets standards ASTM B-584-06 (C89833), ANSI B 1.20.1, and ANSI B 16.15 for quality assurance. Class is a standard relating to tolerance, construction, dimension, and wall thickness, but it is not a direct measurement of maximum working pressure.
Pipe fittings are components used for connecting, terminating, controlling flow, and changing the direction of piping in many different industries. When purchasing pipe fittings, consider the application, as this will affect material type, shape, size and required durability. Fittings are available threaded or unthreaded, in many shapes, styles, sizes, and schedules (pipe wall thickness).
Merit Brass manufactures pipe nipples following ISO 9001 standards for quality assurance. Family-owned since 1937, the company is based in Cleveland, OH. Merit Brass distributes pipe fittings to the United States and Canada.
</p>Lead Free Brass Pipe Fitting, Reducing Coupling, Class 125, 4" X 3" NPT Female Review
I purchased the 3/8" x 1/4" NPT female reducing coupling for the same reason as the other reviewer, to attach a Gaggia Classic portafilter to a Merrill PG200 pressure gauge. The threading did not align with the portafilter, through it is the right size. I could screw it in slightly, but it would go ajar and come off. I returned the first one for a replacement which had the exact same issue. Went to a local hardware store and purchased the same size reducing coupling which threaded fine. My guess is that Amazon currently has a bad batch (mine was shipped from and sold by Amazon LLC).Most of the consumer Reviews tell that the "Lead Free Brass Pipe Fitting, Reducing Coupling, Class 125, 4" X 3" NPT Female" are high quality item.
