The skull is very realistic with a fair degree of detail of the indentations for connection points of muscles; some nerve/blood vessel passageways indicated, suture lines, etc. The teeth are extraordinarily human like, which I found surprising, given the age of the fossils of this species versus what science has falsely indicated to be the case in the past. This skull and its scientific "discovery" that has changed scientific thinking on the subject of human evolution, prevalent for many years, indicates just what license scientists have taken over the years, using very little information to make huge claims about evolutionary patterns and what the "predecessors" were or were not. Scientists have too often treated their own theories as fact rather than simply educated guesses. There's nothing wrong with educated guesses, unless they are treated as facts and or used to give legitimacy to other educated guesses (giving rise to false premises). I found the little pamphlet that came with the skull an unexpected bonus. The information in the pamphlet was very good, along with the bibliography readings referenced. Now for the purpose of my ordering the skull in the first place, my undergraduate degree was in Zoology from the University of Texas in Austin. Although I do not now work in the area of zoology, I wanted the skull as a reminder of those days when I studied the comparative anatomy of animals, the anthropology of humans and various other zoology related subjects. I found that the skull fit my needs quite well and I was not disappointed. Artifacts are what you make of them, and what you make of them has a lot to do with your preconceived notions, rather than real facts. So, my only caution to future customers is to treat this as the best guess as to what this creature really looked like, or represented. We see now through a glass dimly, but some day . . . .
