OK, I wish I was Mr. Construction or an electrician, but I'm just an old guy who bought 2 large outdoor 100 Gallon Fountains. My outdoor electrical sockets are NOT GFCI protected. Even worse, the one Fountain actually was splashing the plug in socket somewhat. NOT something that made me relax as these new Fountains were designed to do. I had them both running for a week just using an old Home Depot 18 year old 16 gauge extension cord. Just freaked me out and at 60 years of age, not my idea of fun in the Sun....I came to good old Amazon.com to look for a solution since my Electrician wanted over $[...] to swap out my old box to a GFCI unit and extend the one yard fountain cord to reach.
When I found anything that may add safety, I then went to the actual manufacturers website. I would find units by TRIPP and many others that sounded just great. But go to their website? Oh, guess what, INDOOR USE ONLY! Why state they are "safe" and protect against moisture if they can't be used outdoors or "near water"! Completely insane. Really upset me to waste 2 days finding out it is mostly "crap" that is advertised as Superman's cape...I ended up buying 3 items. When they arrived, 2 or the 3 stated as promised on packaging, one FAILED and was a total lie like the rest and so misleading I am returning it same day (unused). What I bought was this unit that is just outstanding. Looks like maybe the one SINGLE thing China ever produced that is not junk. I can only hope!

This baby is designed to last 15 years with abuse. Since I am 60 (and married...) I am sure it will outlive ME. Especially as it is in the shade, not touching ANY ground or sunshine.

Now, should I give this 5 stars already? Probably not. But after 3 weeks shopping is stores, Spa & Patio Furniture Centers, nothing but NOTHING compares to this extremely stout looking unit. It looks & feels like something I am willing to bet my life on (so to speak). Will this make me safe? Don't know for sure but the store we bought the Fountains from had over 200 Fountains all plugged into simple UNPROTECTED $[...] power strips (some in damp dirt!) and nobody seemed worried. Hopefully, I have split the difference between "INDIFFERENCE" and paying my electrician hundreds of dollars for overkill? Speaking of kill, am I worried? Well as a result of my own wiring choices, I now feel comfortable. I also made my own waterproof covers to cover ALL plug in sockets and all places where an extension cord plugs into this unit. Good enough? Well, I would post a picture of me with my feet planted in the 55 Gallon Pond at the foot of my fountains, but that would just make you jealous..... :-)
