Ray Ennis has brought us a beautiful piece of equipment in the form of the Ranger Mk II. First off, I'm a big fan of black. The bead blast finish on the mk I tends to help with the formation of rust, even on 440C. The black coat will keep the blade better protected from the elements. Fit and finish are excellent. Blade comes with a working edge, meaning it's sharp, but not paper shaving sharp. For some, this is a problem, as they want their blades like razors. If you intend to do outdoors work wwith this knife, like processing wood, you will only need to sharpen it just a little. Too much and you can damage the edge, even on a knife ans superbly constructed and heat treated as this. If you intend it to be for flesh only, then you have your work cut out for you, as Ray's blades are very difficult to sharpen due to his superior heat treating and cryo stablization. The addition of a spine sharpened 3/4 of the way back allow for backcuts, but leave enough spine to baton with. The micarta slabs are smooth but grippy. All in all, it's what the knife world has come to expect from Ray. The whole kit and kaboodle is backed by Entrek's lifetime warranty, if you break it, he'll fix or replace it, no questions asked.
